The Irish Whiskey Society (IWS), Ireland's largest club for whiskey enthusiasts, hosted its largest and final event of the year on Wednesday, November 27, at the historic Jameson Distillery in Bow Street, Smithfield, Dublin 7.
The fundraiser, supported by Irish Distillers Limited, raised over €10,000 for the nearby Capuchin Day Centre for Homeless People, an organisation dedicated to providing hot meals, food parcels, showering facilities, and essential medical services to those in need.
The Capuchin Day Centre for Homeless People provides approximately 700 breakfasts and dinners each day and distributes over 1400 food parcels each week.
"We are delighted to receive the donation at this time. Demand for our services rose 10% in the last year, which had increased 18% on the previous year," said Brian Friel, The Centre’s CEO.
The fundraising event featured a lineup of whiskey tastings led by industry experts, Andrew Dickey, IDL brand engagement and advocacy team manager, and Eric Ryan, Powers Distiller, Maturation & Innovation Specialist.
Attended by 80 IWS members in person, with another 80 joining via livestream, the evening showcased a selection of exceptional whiskeys, including Powers Rye Virgin Oak Single Cask 6YO, 29 YO Malt in Bourbon (Knappogue Castle), Redbreast 27, and more.
There was also a raffle with prizes donated by Glendalough Distillery, Dick Mack’s, Brian Greene, and others.
“I am indebted to Irish Distillers for their invaluable contribution, without whom it would not have been possible," said Brían Ó Donnchadha, outgoing President of the Irish Whiskey Society. "It was apt that the funds raised would go to such a worthy charity on the same street.”
