C&C CEO: Major Drinks Firms Have ‘No Manoeuvrability’ On Minimum Pricing Issue

C&C Group chief executive Stephen Glancey has defended the drinks maker’s decision to support the Irish government’s minimum pricing policy, saying “the big international drinks companies have no manoeuvrability on this topic.”

Speaking in today’s Irish Times, Glancey suggested that at larger firms, “the local guys get told by their head office in -  wherever - that opposition to minimum pricing is the policy.

“It doesn’t matter to them if it is the right thing for Ireland or Scotland, where communities have a terrible problem with low-priced alcohol.”

He added that he believes there is an “inevitability” about the introduction of minimum pricing, also telling the paper that should it be implemented, “C&C has to survive in the same community as everybody else.”

Elsewhere, the Scot said that he believes there are “plenty of opportunities” for the C&C business to grow by acquisition over the coming years.
