Family-owned Italian coffee brand Caffè Vergnano has launched in Ireland and Northern Ireland, following Coca-Cola HBC’s acquisition of a 30% equity shareholding in the group.
The acquisition deal included an exclusive distribution agreement in Coca-Cola HBC’s markets, including the island of Ireland.
Caffè Vergnano Ireland Launch
Celebrating its 140th anniversary this year, Caffè Vergnano will be available to hotels and restaurants across the island.
To celebrate both the anniversary and the group’s launch in Ireland, the coffee brand conducted a survey to find out how people like their coffee.
From the 1,000 people asked, a cappuccino won the honour of Ireland’s favourite type of coffee to drink when out, at over 27%.
The Americano, at 23%, and the latte, in third – at 21%, rounded out the top three.
Close to a third of those surveyed (31%) buy a coffee on at least one occasion each day, 19% buy a coffee multiple times a day, and 51% of people buy a coffee out of home three to five times a week.
The reasons cited for purchasing a coffee included the need for an energy boost and the opportunity to socialise, but the taste of coffee was the most popular choice.
In terms of popular times for a coffee break, the survey found that weekday mornings were the most popular time frame, followed by weekend mornings and weekday lunchtimes.
Interestingly, 56% of respondents prefer to get their coffee to take away, compared to the 35% who prefer to sit in a coffee shop, restaurant or bar, with a possible reason for this being the switch to takeaway coffees during Covid-19.
‘The Perfect Coffee’
Commenting on the findings of the research and the launch of Caffè Vergnano on the island of Ireland, Niall Kidd, coffee business manager, Coca-Cola HBC Ireland and Northern Ireland, said, “Coffee drinkers in Ireland and Northern Ireland are a discerning group. They know their coffee and value taste and quality above everything else. Given the premium quality, authenticity and heritage of Caffè Vergnano, we felt it was the perfect coffee for our hotels and restaurants in Northern Ireland and Ireland.”
