As part of a plan to step up growth in the US, Aer Lingus will be operating a new four-times-weekly route between Dublin and Philadelphia from March 2018.
The airline is also adding 177,000 seats to its existing North American routes, which involves the expansion of services between Dublin and the cities of San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago and Washington, according to The Irish Times. This will bring the total number of seats available on Aer Lingus's US routes next summer to a record 2.75 million.
Aer Lingus chief operating officer Mike Rutter asserted that the airline could facilitate the passage of 4 to 4.5 million transatlantic customers through Dublin by the start of 2020. He added that he expects Aer Lingus will handle approximately 2.5 million transatlantic travellers in 2017.
