Leading food psychologist Professor Brian Wansink of Cornell University will be the keynote speaker at the Nutrition & Health Foundation’s (NHF) 8th annual seminar, which takes place in Dublin on 10th September 2015. Entitled Obesity Prevention Through Changing Behaviour, the seminar will be addressed by national and international experts on ways to address the obesity challenge facing Ireland.
Speakers on the day will include Dr. John Devlin, Department of Health, Mr. Ronan Toomey, Healthy Ireland, Mr. Tom Collins, Bórd Bia - on consumer health and wellbeing trends - and Dr. Sorcha McKenna, McKinsey Ireland on obesity challenges and levers. Jennifer Feighan, CEO, Irish Nutrition and Dietetic Institute will give the opening address at the event, which will be chaired by Professor Niall Moyna, Centre for Preventive Medicine, DCU.
Recent findings on obesity in Ireland show that almost a quarter of the population are obese and a further 37% of Irish adults are overweight. According to the Irish Longitudinal Study on Ageing led by Trinity College, Dublin, four out of five over-50s in Ireland are overweight or obese. The rates of obesity and people who are overweight have increased in the past 20 years and the numbers continue to grow.
