Andras Hotels has announced plans to demolish the old Londonderry Hotel building in Portrush and replace it will a new 103-bedroom at a cost of £8 million.
The company hopes to have the venue ready in time to facilitate golf enthusiasts during The Open championship, which will take place in Portrush in 2019.
Speaking to The Belfast Telegraph, Andras Hotels managing director Rajesh Rana said that the attraction of golf is one of the main driving forces behind the development and asserted that, "this would be a big investment, creating jobs and regeneration for the wider area."
The proposal for the venue includes knocking down existing buildings within the full extent of the site at 39-41 Main Street and Atlantic Avenue to construct a five storey hotel which will also encompass a restaurant/bar.
Rana went on to reveal that Andras is talking to a few different brands about potentially running the development and declared that he's optimistic that it will be ready before the 2019 Open championship begins.
